During last year’s spring, at the heart of the city of Palermo, 091 Art Project (www.091artproject.it) was created by Costantino Ferrara. His young age must not mislead us or make us hesitate: since he was young he has“breathed” Art thanks to his father, an art dealer.
While I’m talking to him I feel a good and careful attention grown throughout the years. I asked him: « Who made you do this»? and about his quid. « Culture does not make you rich, despite this, we decided to undertake this path with enthusiasm»- Costantino Ferrara says « to do so, meaning to propose artists from the secondary market, we made use of an on-line platform to offer a web area to art dealers who can use or interact with our contents. We believe this is the characteristic that differentiates us from the others».
Therefore, his work is a relentless search among auctions and art dealers all over Italy to propose works by relevant artists such as Ardengo Soffici and Mimmo Rotella to his clients and assayers (Sicilians and non). Besides this, there is much careful and detailed attention to their web, a virtual space allowing them to work not only with those who are lucky to swing by in his gallery, but also with those who live far from Palermo.
His will to bet on the secondary market represents his strong suit, but does not exclude the chance to be in touch with the primary one in future months by investing in young talents that will have to believe in him as young art dealer- and I can safely say he is promising-.
In an ever-changing city like Palermo, I reckon it is compulsory to say that this city invests in culture. What we have to do is wait and see how the future of this young space unfolds.
